First Look at Chris Evans as Captain America

You know, there is no way that the makers of the upcoming Captain America (2011) could please everyone.

I mean, I grew up on the Captain America of the US Bicentennial era. Others grew to love the Captain of the modern Ed Brubaker era. Still others might recall fondly the 1980s spin put on Captain by writer/artist/dynamo John Byrne.

All of those artists and writers who have contributed to Cap's legacy have their fans and it's no understatement to say that covers like that Jack Kirby one for issue number 200 are seared into my brain.

To a 9-year-old, that cover screamed "Buy me!" and defined what Captain America was to me, a child of the 1970s.

There's no way that the film can please fans like me and fans of those other Caps from other eras.

That said, this fan is now a bit more at ease having seen the below photo of Chris Evans in the Captain America garb -- sans headgear, though.

I still have my doubts about the Thor (2011) film, I now have fewer doubts about this one.

And I have a good deal more affection for this man-out-of-time character than I do for the Norse god.

(Though the first Captain America film will be set largely in the World War 2 era; Cap won't show up in the modern age until the eventual Avengers flick.)

Entertainment Weekly, by way of Marvel, has a set of 8 photos from the film including that Photoshopped cover.

Dig it!
