Following the apparent dissolution of Oasis, Liam Gallagher is back with a new band, Beady Eye.
The group released a free download yesterday, "Bring The Light", and you can download it from the group's official website here.
I have to say that my expectations were very, very low for this since the last Oasis album was so bloated and boring. This song is rollicking, with a nice piano line that surprised me.
And the fact that Liam took Andy Bell (Ride, Hurricane #1, Oasis) and Gem Archer (Heavy Stereo, Oasis) with him into this new venture has made me a bit more hopeful that the resulting album -- due in 2011 -- will be worth checking out.
This week's Track of the Week is a one-off single from Mary Timony. Fresh from her latest superb record, Untame the Tiger , Mary's back with a piece from her archive dressed up and made new. It's a haunting bit of business for the start of autumn proper. Made up of parts of two songs, "Curious Tides" insinuates itself then turns into a rocker. It wouldn't have been out of place on Untame the Tiger , really. I hope there's more like this from Mary soon; maybe a rarities collection? That would be a great idea, wouldn't it? Until then, here's what Mary has to say about this track: "The first half of the song is a demo I sort of very lazily made in my basement about 15 years ago when I was between bands. I kind of forgot about it because it seemed unfinished. At the time, I had wanted to record a full band playing the second part but didn't get around to it.
