How can a movie with a beautiful French girl riding a pterodactyl over the roofs of 1911 Paris be so exquisitely boring?
I don't know. Ask Luc Besson. He made The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc-Sec (2010). Despite a winning lead turn from Louise Bourgoin, the film falls flat.
There are moments of visual poetry that recall the best bits from Terry Gilliam but, really, the film is downright tedious.
The tone is all over the place, the bit of visual poetry are wasted, ideas rushed over in spots, and the plot is never adequately explained until a viewer is beyond caring.
Saying that, I'm now intrigued about the comics that the film was based on. There's enough here to me make me curious.
The film is out on Region 3 DVD here in Hong Kong for less than $20USD.
I guess maybe I had hyped it up too much in my mind after seeing that cool trailer 2 years ago?
