It still seems fitting to pause the music-related stuff on this site at least once a year and remember the birthday of my favorite actress of all time, Jean Harlow. I guess it's all the more appropriate to do that since she's been on my header longer than anyone else too.
Born March 3, 1911, Jean got stereotyped as a sex bomb but was so much more. Her career tragically cut short due to her death in 1937, she at least made enough good films that we can still see glimpses of her real comedic and dramatic talents even now, many decades later.
I guess I'd say I've been a big fan since I was 12. My grandfather, having worked as an usher in movie theaters in the Depression era, fed me stories of the stars of that era including Jean. I'm pretty sure that I watched Dinner at Eight (1933) when I was 8 or 9 'cause of him. And that prompted me to watch Bombshell (1933) -- labelled Blonde Bombshell (1933) -- on TV when I was a pre-teen living outside of New Orleans in 1979.
So I may have grown out of my Hong Kong film fandom but I've never outgrown my love of Jean Harlow and her films. I'm still a big fan.
