Sun Swallows The Moon: A Brief Review Of The New EP From Holy Golden

Holy Golden is Leslie Schott and Andrew Valenti. They make music that is a bit unearthly and altogether memorable. The duo's new EP, Sleepwalkers In The Milky Way, drops on Wallflower Records on Friday. It's a beautiful thing.

On "Lost Island" one can hear faint traces of Heaven Or Las Vegas-era Cocteaus peaking through the seams of the music, even as the more percussive "Strength" mines a vein of bracing electro-pop that's a good deal more accessible. Elsewhere, the evocatively-titled "Sun Swallows The Moon" sees Leslie croon over music from Andrew that echoes the sort of stuff Kate Bush put down on The Dreaming. These two don't take quite as many chances as Kate ever did, but on the spry "Wheel Of Fortune" the duo manage to work up an infectious sound that intoxicates. Fans of Cranes and early Lush, for instance, should like this EP quite a bit.
