Do You Feel It: A Brief Review Of The New EP From Slow Pulp

Wisconsin band Slow Pulp make music that skirts the borders of shoegaze and All-American alt-rock. The band's newest EP, Big Day, drops this week and it's a stunning little release, full of effortlessly enjoyable stuff.

"Do You Feel It" is a brief trippy ramble, while "New Media" is more considered, flashes of old Romeo Void and Missing Persons sides flashing through the hooks here. Elsewhere, "High" is a down-tempo marvel, all low-key riffs that see tension ebbing and flowing, while closer "Young World" is elegant and spacious, like stuff from American peers like Golden Daze. The music on this EP is rarely nothing if not shimmering goodness, the players here -- Teddy Mathews (drums), Emily Massey (guitar / vocals), Henry Stoehr (guitar), and Alex Leeds (bass) -- using a deliberate touch to not overpower these languid and simple numbers.

Big Day is out this week.
