Don't Want To Complicate A Simple Narrative: A Quick Word About The New Single From Counterfeit Madison
The new single from Columbus, Ohio three-piece Counterfeit Madison is an effervescent slice of sonic crack. The cut, "So Much to Give", is out now and darn it if it's not the catchiest thing I've heard all week. As the band makes moves towards cutting a full-length record, now's the time to spend some time with this number.
Counterfeit Madison are Sharon Udoh on keys and vocals, Adam Hardy on bass, and Seth Daily on drums and percussion. And the sound here is a bit of throwback business to soul-pop circa the early Eighties, layered atop a simple and direct hook. The chorus, as big and effortlessly catchy as they come, is bright and sunny, and the sort of thing that the best smart pop songs are able to offer up. Still, it's Sharon's easy way with a vocal line, and her charming personality as the front-person here, that renders "So Much To Give" one of the best singles of the summer of 2019.
