The new release from Black Mekon is full of bad vibes and garage rock-riffs. Destroy Noslagia, out on Friday via PNKSLM, is yet another in a growing line of superb releases from the label, and the sort of thing that reminds a listener that rock-'n'-roll is still capable of shocking a listener.
"Immunity" is Stooges force wrapped up in a 21st century form, while "Sympathise" owes a huge debt to The Cramps for its bedraggled hooks. Elsewhere, "That Man" slows things down enough that faint echoes of Jon Spencer stuff can be detected, even as "Do You Think That I'm a Junkie?" answers that question with the sort of music that suggests someone strung out and off their nut. "Can't Afford You Baby" is swaggering Stones-y stuff, and yet another indication of just how ferocious the sonic attack of this Birmingham band is. PNKSLM has a knack for finding this stuff so praise to the label as well.
