Let It Out: A Quick Review Of The New Album From Seeker Lover Keeper (Sarah Blasko, Sally Seltmann, and Holly Throsby)
The new record from Australian trio Seeker Lover Keeper is called Wild Seeds. And for whatever that's wild here on this one, out on Friday via Liberation Records, there's lots more that's composed and elegant. The trio -- Sarah Blasko, Sally Seltmann, and Holly Throsby -- croon tunes that are spacious, well-crafted, and as influenced by classical forms as they are by folk-rock ones.
"Let It Out" is a concise jazz-influenced number, while "I'm An Island" is more traditional in its embrace of folk-y forms. Elsewhere, the title song here on Wild Seeds is reminiscent of stuff from Sarah McLachlan, while "One Way Or Another" is a distant cousin to Eighties-era Joni. At their best, these three singers manage to modulate their delivery in such a way that the trio of voices blends as one, or works as a sort of churning instrument all its own, the three voices reacting to each other. Wild Seeds is, at times, austere, but it's also full of a lot of heart if one spends some time with it. Perhaps it's best appreciated in small doses, where the vocalists' power seems even sharper and more serene and stark.
Wild Seeds is out on Friday via Liberation Records.
