Do Yeah: A Quick Review Of The New Single From Bananagun

The new single from Australian band Bananagun is the sort of thing you think is some lost gem from the late Sixties or early Seventies, the kind of thing you think you may have heard blasting on the radio as Brad Pitt drove around town in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. But, no, this is a new tune. The group's newest three-track single is out on Friday via Full Time Hobby, and it's aces.

"Do Yeah" owes a huge debt to Os Mutantes, of course, and it's almost as big a debt as the one owed to Broadcast for "Crane in the Tiger's Mouth" too. Still, the tunes of Bananagun are wildly evocative of past glories, even as they strike out for fairly original territory. This stuff is a neat blend of retro charms with a modern improvisational sense. All three songs here are infectious and unlike anything else you're going to hear this month. Dig it!
