It wasn't too ago that Dry Cleaning dropped a jarring EP. When I reviewed that one, I was fumbling for ways to describe this London group's unique sound. Now, with their new EP, Boundary Road Snacks and Drinks, Dry Cleaning are making music that's a trifle more accessible.
"Dog Proposal" is sort of catchy, oddly, while "Viking Hair" is singsong-y but weirdly discordant. It's a style that this band have made their own, frankly. Elsewhere, "Jam After School" is languid and spindly, with lyrics that are arch and funny, while "Sit Down Meal" is darn near almost pretty. Over an insistent riff, the players sound as if they are winding themselves up for an attack. The cut never quite explodes, instead swirling ever onward, the instruments whirring with muted post-punk rage.
