Run Away To My Best Friend's Place: A Quick Word About The New Single From Uruguay

The duo Uruguay are making music that defies the application of any hastily-applied genre label. Stepha Murphy and Benjamin Dawson-Sivalia serve up smartly-produced, impassioned modern pop. The duo's material is all worth checking out but the two musicians are prepping a single called "Best Friend's Place" ahead of its release on Friday.

The cut positively purrs with a real urgency. Stepha's vocals go from modulated to emotional in seconds, and the instruments, from both Stepha and Ben, whip up a slowly-building squall. It's a squall that eventually rocks out, and "Best Friend's Place" is really infectious and invigorating. I love stuff like this, where I can hear pieces of different styles being blended so successfully, and I'm now ready to follow these two anywhere they choose to go.

"Best Friend's Place" will be out on Friday. Uruguay will be playing D.C. this week, at Songbyrd, on Thursday, November 14.
