I Can't Wait: A Brief Review Of The New Album From Georgia

The new album from Georgia, Seeking Thrills is audacious in some ways. The newest release from British vocalist Georgia Barnes, out on Friday via Domino, leaps over a few genres with ease, and most of the tracks here possess an interesting melange of dance and indie tropes. Whatever works here does so almost in spite of the somewhat odd juxtaposition of some of these elements.

The percolating "Never Let You Go" is fairly infectious, while "Started Out" is more intense and focused. Elsewhere, "Til I Own It" is more expansive, while "I Can't Wait" is a fairly convincing bit of Eighties-style synth-pop. "Feel It", a real banger, is likely the real highlight here on Seeking Thrills, while "Ray Guns" is also one of the better numbers on this record.

Georgia's music works best when there's a sense that the whole thing is meant to soundtrack an enormous party, and the energy level goes through the roof. On those tracks with that kind of vibe, Georgia's music works fairly well, despite whatever bits here that feel oddly dependent on past styles.
