The music of Blonder is dream pop but it's also just plain pop. Constantine Anastasakis, the main mind here, uses Blonder's sonic wash to convey emotions of joy and exhilaration. The project's new EP, Crystal Ball, will be out on Friday via Cool World Records.
"Glue" is equal parts O.M.D. and Young Guv, shards of crystalline keyboards layered with a sugary melodic sense, while "Brand New Car" doubles down on the retro synths. Elsewhere, "Bees in the Sun" and "Crystal Ball" edge close to what Tame Impala's been up to recently. Blonder are intent on creating music with mood and feeling, even as the instrumentation makes a listener think back to stuff from decades ago. It's a very intentional sort of music-making, one which renders this tuneful and fun all at once. Fans of High Sunn and the previously-mentioned Young Guv, for example, will find lots to enjoy here.
