Riding A Wave: A Quick Review Of The New EP From Love Fame Tragedy (Ex-The Wombats)

Love Fame Tragedy is a new project for Murph from The Wombats. The newest release from this outfit is out on Friday. Called Live From SIR, Hollywood, it features a handful of cuts in live renditions. What's here doesn't sound live so that's a plus.

"Multiply" is bright and peppy, while the excellent "Body Parts" finds the music take a turn that suggests a meatier iteration of the kind of indie we heard on The Postal Service record. The hook is a great one here, make no mistake about that. Elsewhere, "Pills" is faux soul, while "My Cheating Heart" is a big slab of radio-friendly stuff. Catchy and indie in sensibility, the song isn't too far removed from lots of the better Wombats numbers. "Riding a Wave", the closer here, was the my fave on the EP, the waves of sleek synth-pop here doing a lot to please the ears of anyone who grew up on alt-rock in the Eighties and Ninetes.
