Nobody Likes Me: A Brief Review Of The New EP From Bottler

Pat Butler and Phil Shore are Bottler. The two of them make what we'd call electronica. But the tunes here are more interesting than lots of what's in that genre. The duo's newest EP, Clementine, dropped on InFiné on Friday.

"Nobody Likes Me" unfurls like The Go! Team and MGMT, the song a hook and a few samples, while the brighter "When I Don't Think Of You" is catchy. On this one, the duo nods in the direction of late Eighties Depeche Mode, while "Day Sleeper Peace Keeper" is more ambient still. This one is downright space-y and it feels like something that recalls earlier eras' pioneers. Clementine closes with "Weekend", the most conventional thing here. The cut has a harder beat than the other numbers, and it's proof that Bottler can make fairly straightforward, retro-flavored electro-pop with ease.

Clementine is out now via InFiné.
