The up-and-coming singer Lu$ hails from Miami and brings a unique spin to contemporary neo-soul. The Haitian-American artist's newest EP is called Moody and it's out today. Containing four songs Lu$ recorded with producer Terrance Daniels, this entire EP is material that suggests Lu$ is going to be earning more and more fans immediately.
The title cut on Moody finds Lu$ channeling early Beyonce over a more textured instrumental bed. Her voice is strong here, and strong enough that it sounds at times like it's breaking out of the lush production around it. Elsewhere, on the peppy "Selfish", one hears something direct and catchy, and it's the sort of thing that sounds like it should be a big hit. "Lie to Me" is the clear highlight here, a track that showcases Lu$'s superb command of her voice, and her ability to breathe herself fully into the material. This is the real winner on Moody, and a listener can imagine a whole album of stuff just like this, where the production and instrumentation work so well with the singer's vocal performance. Richly and subtly emotional, and perfectly delivered, this song is a real treasure and I can't wait to hear more just like this from Lu$ in the future.
Moody is out on all the platforms today.
