The Wreck Of My Soul: A Quick Review Of The New EP from La Battue

French trio La Battue owe debts to Broadcast and Stereolab. But hey, who doesn't these days when approaching this sort of music? The group's new EP dropped yesterday and it's fairly decent, even if a listener like me may feel like some of this has been done before.

Go Set, Go!, despite that title, juggles a few mellow songs with two really good up-tempo ones. "Wreck of My Soul" and "Tamsin Gray", for example, are lovely, but they are so similar to bits from Broadcast and Lake Ruth, that one is likely to not remain impressed. However, on the faster title cut and "Watch Me", La Battue achieve something more successful. These numbers are more engaging, and the hooks easier to love. These tracks hint at something original lurking in this trio's brand of indie, and I'm now eager to hear even more from these players in the future.
