Back in 2018, Michael Jaworski and Sohrab Habibion of SAVAK heard a French band in a little club and decided to get that band's music out. Recorded by Michael and Sohrab, the debut album of Pays P. will be out in September. As for now, we've got a video to premiere today from this fiery French trio!
"Olatunji", likely named after the drumming pioneer, roars and crackles with creativity. What's here is post-punk, but it's also fusion and rock and punk colliding in a blender. Parts of this cut remind me of Hawkwind, The Mekons, and The Fall, while others remind me of Th' Faith Healers, Tindersticks, and PJ Harvey. The players here -- Lucas Valero, Pablo Valero, and Laura Boullic -- attack this with vigor, and the mix retains the music's vibrancy and feels like something committed to tape in a burst of furious activity.
And the video's got a lot of spirit too!
Ça v aller by Pays P. is out on Peculiar Works in September (digital in August).
