Last Days On Earth: A Quick Review Of The New EP From Beabadoobee

Before she heads out on a big tour this Fall (kicking off here in D.C. at 9:30, actually), Beabadoobee is back with new music. By my count, this is her first offering of fresh stuff since Fake It Flowers last year, and this EP on Dirty Hit is pretty darn good.

Our Extended Play opens with the spry "Last Day on Earth", a catchy bit of business with a hint of shoegaze lurking in the guitars. That one is followed by the sinewy "Cologne", a rougher serving that sees Bea's voice come up against harder hooks. "Animal Noises" is a trifle, but "He Gets My So High" is quite a bit better, despite that title. Channeling Juliana Hatfield as well as The Cure circa "Friday, I'm in Love", Beabadoobee delivers one of her better recent compositions here. The tune is breezy and delightful, and the highlight, I think, of this stopgap EP.

Our Extended Play is out now via Dirty Hit.
