"I Heard The Kinks When I Was Three": The Brand New Video From Swansea Sound (Pooh Sticks, Heavenly) Plays Here!
It takes real skill to make music this smart and still loveable. I say "smart" and not "clever" because I think you know why the former is better than the latter in terms of pop. And few know as much about making smart indie-pop as Hue Williams of The Pooh Sticks, and Amelia Fletcher and Rob Pursey of Heavenly and The Catenary Wires. Drummer Ian Button's no dunce either, actually.
These folks have come together as Swansea Sound, a group who's dropped a few exemplary singles already, but who are now prepped to offer up their debut long-player next month. Live at the Rum Puncheon is out on November 19 but you can enjoy the bright and infectious first cut here in the form of the band's brand new video for "Rock N Roll Void", an ode to the pleasures/pains of being a music obsessive. Hue sings like a man aware that his obsession is what fires his soul. Or something like that. The video features animation from Amelia Fletcher, who may have a second or third career going based upon how enjoyable this looks. I love the cut and I love the album. But you'll have to wait a few weeks to hear me rave about that. Dig this one now though!
