The Golem: Rescored Feat. Members Of The Dead C, Espers, Boredoms, The Flesh Eaters, The Flaming Lips, Wolf Eyes
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the seminal horror film, The Golem: How He Came Into The World. And to celebrate that, and Halloween, the film has been recast as an online series featuring music from some pretty impressive names. Fans of bands as diverse as The Dead C, The Flaming Lips, and Espers will find reason to watch. And listen.
From the press release:
For the 100th anniversary of the commercial release of Paul Wegener's 1921 horror classic, The Golem: How He Came Into the World, creators and storytellers with the nonprofit Reboot have reimagined this classic of silent cinema, adding a soundtrack created by some of the world's greatest musical talents. Artists such as Alan Licht, Gretchen Davidson, Rebecca Odes, John Olson, Nate Young, Sharon Gal, Scott Amendola, Steve Berlin, and Steven Drozd of the Flaming Lips have combined to contribute a new sonic imagining for the film. We don't fully know exactly what music was played to accompany The Golem when it originally screened before many audiences in the early 20th century. However, this mystery has led to opportunities for musicians to engage Paul Wegener's images, creating new audio atmospheres for the story to play out in. This series unpacks the themes, underlying meanings, and ideas found in this new presentation of The Golem and what it might have to say to us today.
The resulting work is jarring and inspiring in odd measures, with the accompanying scores bringing abrasive and unsettling vibes to the whole enterprise. This is a unique project, and one which demands your time as a fan of music, and as a fan of classic cinema.
