The year's already started and it's not looking as encouraging a new start as I'd hoped it would be. Still, the rush of good indie is a constant and, thankfully, Seablite are making it. The band's released a new 7-inch single on Emotional Response, and it's aces.
"Breadcrumbs" surges with a real energy. Propulsive and still catchy, this is one of the group's best cuts in ages. The flip here, "Ink Bleeds", sounds a bit like Lush circa Split, and I can think of no higher praise than that. The guitars chime in the right spots, even as the bass and drums pound away. The vocals from Lauren Matsui and Galine Tumasyan do almost as much of the work here as their guitar and bass, respectively, while the drumming of Andy Pastalaniec (Chime School) and the lead guitar of Jen Mundy create enough of a racket to keep this one engaging. This single is sure to be the first in a string of compelling offerings from Seablite in the near future.
