In an awful week, where it seems as if civil society is being destroyed on both sides of the Atlantic, we can take comfort in good news wherever we can find it. I'm happy to take delight in the news that The Orchids are due to release a new album on September 2.
Following their superb contribution to the wonderful Under The Bridge compilation earlier this year, Glasgow's The Orchids are here prepping a new record for release on Skep Wax. Dreaming Kind will be out in early September and it's already up for order. The first single from that one is here and it's a delightful bit of business. "This Boy is a Mess" gently surges with purpose, throbs with a propulsive elegance that's as peppy as it is graceful. This is one fine bit of jangle-pop, for those fond of that genre and label. Fans of the band's Sarah Records output should be as pleased as I am that the Glasgow outfit is back and sounding this extraordinary.
