Sail To The Silver Sun: A Quick Review Of The New Album From Eerie Wanda

It's been almost four years since the last album from Eerie Wanda. Where Pet Town was playful and inventive, Internal Radio is assured, though no less mysterious in spots. The Joyful Noise Recordings release, out now, is another step forward for Marina Tadic as Eerie Wanda.

Opener "Sail to the Silver Sun" beats out a march towards the void, Wanda's vocals leading the way, while "Long Time" is spirited and almost oddly peppy. Marina coos like Bjork in parts of this record, though "Confess" and "Nightwalk" are spooky ruminations that owe debts to the late Julie Cruise. Elsewhere, "Birds Aren't Real" and "Puzzled" veer off into territory that feels unique, the plunk-plunk of the ghostly keyboards in each anchoring these in our ears. Call this dream pop if you must, but Internal Radio is also like a nightmare that contains moments of surreal beauty. As such, it's expands the reach of Marina Tadic substantially.
