SINGLE OF THE WEEK: "Crystallise" By Winter Gardens

Brighton's Winter Gardens haven't put out a ton of music, but what they've released so far seems intended to draw maximum impact. Each single from Ananda Howard and Jamie Windless has been a blast of indie-pop of the sort that thrills. New single "Crystallise" is no different.

Moving away from the shoegaze of earlier numbers, "Crystallise" finds Ananda Howard cooing her way over one of the most spacious and expansive keyboard hooks this group's offered up yet. Channeling both "Rapture"-era Blondie and any number of Goldfrapp tunes, this single is a delight. The vocals transport a listener, and when blended with the synth-washes and other textures here, the whole package pleases immensely. As I say with every track from Winter Gardens, I can't wait to hear what they come up with next.
