I'm happy today to premiere a video from 2 Square Y?, a project from post-punk legend Jim Welton (The Homosexuals). "The Secret Degree" is the title track from the new album from 2 Square Y?, Welton's new project. It's out on Emotional Response Records, along with an EP from Amos and Sarah, another Welton project.

He is joined on his latest project, 2 SQUARE Y? by sonic trickster Ted Barrow, former member with Welton in Die Trip Computer Die (amongst others).

Jim Welton, UK underground unsung hero, has been responsible for a plethora of remarkable projects since the late 1970s. Original bassist and vocalist in The Homosexuals, Welton left to pursue his own It's War Boys label, splintering into a myriad of remarkable, challenging and hugely influential music, under a smokescreen of pseudonyms that nearly 5 decades later many are still trying to fathom and untangle.

"The Secret Degree" seems cut from the same cloth as early Cleaners from Venus releases, or even the first, more melodic moments from XTC. Whatever you say about this, the tune's a sly and spry bit of business. Welton's nimble way with vocals and a hook gives this a spark that's a delight.
