Katie Lass makes music that defies the application of a genre label. It's music that shares similarities with shoegaze and dream pop, at least in terms of appeal, but it's also bolder and more risky than those genres sometimes allow. Her last album, Hypnopomp, yielded some winners and today's premiere is a tune from that one.
"Luster" is a discordant but compelling bit of business. The video is ideally suited in terms of visuals to the sounds. The song is mixed by Warren Defever of His Name is Alive, and the tune charms in the same way his recent offerings have charmed. The song buzzes with potential, and sounds like pop being deconstructed.
