Productivity: Heads Up About The New Single From Zwei Null Zwei (SAVAK, Edsel, Girls Against Boys, Nation Of Ulysses, The Make-Up)
Out of the blue (or the metallic gray, as it were), the Krautrock rhythms of Zwei Null Zwei have arrived. Full of mystery and retro gloom, these two slabs of post-punk sound like buried treasures from 1979. But they're not. We can pinpoint the creators.
Featuring James Canty (Nation of Ulysses, The Make-Up), Sohrab Habibion (SAVAK, Edsel), Eli Janney (Girls Against Boys), and Geoff Sanoff (producer of high regard), Zwei Null Zwei are cashing in their influences and offering up a new take on the sort of thing that propelled bands in Berlin a few decades ago. As harsh and sleek as anything from Kraftwerk, "Productivity" churns forward like a train in the night. It's a coldly elegant track, and a superb distallation of the stuff that these guys have crafted in earlier projects. The flip, "No Reference", is more rhythmic, a pulsing beat carries this one into a space that's not entirely unlike the best numbers from Janney's own Girls Against Boys stuff. The two-track single is essential, let's say that too.
More music hopefully coming soon from Zwei Null Zwei, but dig this single now.
