The new Flasher single is so good that you might be tempted to play it a few times before you play the rest of the duo's new EP. In My Myth, out on Friday on Domino, continues the brand of music that the pair perfected on 2022's excellent Love is Yours.
While "Eastern Avenue", about the hometown of Emma Baker and the former hometown of Taylor Mulitz, is an ode to D.C., sure, it's also synth-pop that doesn't lean on the trappings of New Wave from the past for its considerable charm. The bright surfaces of that one give way to the complicatons of "Adriene" here. "Motive" is even better still, slashing guitars like from "Honey Power" by My Bloody Valentine underpin the duo's vocals. This one is just as sleek as most of the numbers on Love is Yours but a good deal louder and more intense. This selection and closer "Hands On" suggest some new directions for this duo to explore on their next album.
