Dot Dash, fresh off the relatively recent release of their seventh album, brought their indie-pop to Silver Spring, Maryland tonight. On a bill that included the fiery Apollo 66 and the J. Robbins-produced Sparklebot (themselves fresh off a new album), Dot Dash honed their jangle-rock with a set that featured a bunch of gems from Madman in the Rain.
However, the new songs tonight caught my attention. "Blank Expression (like Mona Lisa)" was a fast charmer, while set opener "Fragments and Slivers" was a moody bit of business. Hunter said something like the song was only 12 hours old but you wouldn't know it. The three players hit their respective grooves and one could hear the makings of something that, when recorded, would likely be a nice match in tone with "Trip over Clouds", one of my faves from Madman in the Rain.
