The Rishis are Ranjan Avasthi and Sofie Lute, from Athens/Atlanta and Tacoma, and they make entrancing music. Their new record, August Moon, will be out later in April on Cloud Recordings, and it's full of exciting guests, including many from the Elephant 6 collective: Scott Spillane (Neutral Milk Hotel), John Kiran Fernades (Olivia Tremor Control), Andrew Rieger (Elf Power), James Huggins III (Of Montreal), Andy Gonzalez (Marshmallow Coast), Peter Alvanos (Elf Power), Lucy Calhoun (Black Swan Network), Todd Kelly (Great Lakes & also Phosphorescent), and many more. And today, I'm happy to share a first taste of this record with you all.
Here's what the folks had to say about "Just Between You and Me" from August Moon.
"Just between you and me sings the anthem of disaffected youth waking up to find all the foretold opportunities of previous generations are no longer possible due to poor planning and carelessness by ones who came before."
To me, this sounds a bit like Ride, though there's also shades here from Olivia Tremor Control releases, of course. This is good stuff so play this and then go order August Moon from The Rishis.
