While Dot Dash leaned on seventh album, Madman in the Rain the other night as they opened for Bailterspace, they did play a few new cuts. And this time I was quicker with my camera.
I'd heard "Blank Expression" and "Never Ever Nowhereland" already, but both seemed punchier in these run-throughs. I'd love to call this power-pop, but the term is overused, and restrictive. Instead, think of this as a bit of The Buzzcocks and a bit of The Jam, with a dash of the all-American R.E.M. and a hint of Tommy Keene to brew up something special. Condensed refinements of the multiple charms of this three-piece, the cuts are both already excellent additions to the Dot Dash canon. I'm looking forward to album eight, where these will likely sit next to a bunch of other similarly fine compositions.
