Two decades after its release, Sumday by Grandaddy is getting reissued in spectacular fashion. The first taster of this project is "The Town Where I'm Livin Now", whose video is one I'd happy to highlight this week.
Up for pre-order now Sumday: Excess Baggage is a set of rarities and B-sides from the Sumday era. The elegant and elegiac "The Town Where I'm Livin Now" gives a sense of the quality of what's to come. The song is gentle and borderline hypnotic in its precise progression. There's a hint of Neil Young here, as well as a dash of The Left Banke, and Jason Lytle's vocals are heartbreaking in their beauty. This is a superb piece of music.
Sumday: Excess Baggage by Grandaddy is up for order now via Dangerbird Records. There will be multiple editions of this -- CD, vinyl, download, what-have-you -- and I'd urge you to mark this one down on your calendar now. This will be the perfect soundtrack to the end of summer from a band who've always seemed meant to craft such a thing.
