With a woozy rush like My Bloody Valentine circa "Honey Power", was there any way this single wasn't going to be my Single of the Week? L.A.'s Mo Dotti are back with new music and that too is reason enough to get excited. Good thing the tune lives up to my expectations. Exceeds them, really.
While the band's been busy with reissues of their earlier EP's, they've been prepping new music for 2024 and this one is the first hint of that. Opener "For Anyone and One" careens in and pulls us around the room. Gina Negrini (guitar, vocals), Guy Valdez (guitar), Greg Shilton (bass), and Andrew Mackelvie (drums) crank things up and let loose. The tune has a hook or two, and the overall sound retains a force thanks in some part to the mixing by Mark Gardener (Ride). The flipside here is more languid and spacious. "Late August Early September" is Slowdive-ish, but still rough around the edges. I dig it too.
This new Mo Dotti single is out now via Bandcamp. More details via the band's official Facebook page.
