In the last few years there's been a sort of resurgence of interest in the music of Baltimore-based artist Linda Smith. Not that all of us ever stop loving her work, of course. There was that superb The Woods compilation last year, and an essential solo collection not so long before that. But there's more music on the way.
The good news is that two Linda Smith albums are going to be reissued, and for the first time on vinyl, via the esteemed Captured Tracks imprint. Nothing Else Matters and I So Liked Spring will be out on March 1 and I'm happy to highlight today Linda's luminous cover of "Salad Days" by Young Marble Giants. While I'd love to hear her tackle the Minor Threat "Salad Days", this run at the other "Salad Days" is special. The DIY bedsit pop of the Welsh trio has held up remarkably well over the years, and there's a certain similarity in what they were doing and what Linda Smith was doing in earlier eras. For now, dig in and enjoy, and pre-order to your heart's content.
