Following that excellent compilation from The Woods last year, and an essential solo collection not long before that, Linda Smith's work continues to get more attention. This is the attention the Baltimore-based musician's always deserved. More reissues from Captured Tracks on March 1 should get even more ears open.
Nothing Else Matters and I So Liked Spring will be out on March 1 and I'm happy to highlight today Linda's bright "Fin De Fete" from I So Liked Spring. Recorded in 1996, this number seems to me to have the same sort of smart pop points of inspiration behind it as some of what Elliott Smith would do in the same era. I'm not sure if the late singer ever heard Linda Smith's records but it wouldn't have been impossible to imagine, given Linda's presence on some seminal compilations in the indie world then. Until these reissues are out, remind yourself of Linda Smith's quiet genius with this number.
