I really don't do a Track of the Week every week but I had to do one this week for this. The new single from Chime School, the first taste of the band's upcoming Slumberland Records release, is perfect pop. Hey, if you don't like something like this, you're probably reading the wrong sort of site.
Andy Pastalniec leads Chime School. When he's not busy in Seablite, he's doing his own thing with Chime School. And yes, this does chime a great deal. "Give Your Heart Away" starts on a gentle strum before it opens up on a jangling, energetic hook. With organ swirls, the number has a vaguely Sixties-ish appeal, though it's also hugely in debt to C86, Flying Nun Records, and even the early pioneers on this same imprint. This is the sort of song that is rave-worthy. And for all the music that I have to work up some enthusiasm to cover here, this is exactly the kind of music that I wanted this site to champion in the first place.
This is aces! Dig it, play it, play it again, and hit that pre-order button!
The Boy Who Ran The Paisley Hotel by Chime School is out on August 23 via Slumberland Records.
