News Flash: 4AD Reissuing The Moon And The Melodies In August, Cocteau Twins Official Videos On YouTube!
On a day in the tail-end of summer, 1986, I instantly became a fan of 4AD releases. On the same day, I got the import cassette of Victorialand from Cocteau Twins and the first This Mortal Coil cassette (the version on Vertigo Records through licensing with 4AD). While Victorialand didn't immediately win me over, it made enough of an impression that I got The Pink Opaque a couple of months later, and then The Moon and the Melodies, which was out in the States on Relativity Records via a deal with 4AD.
The Moon and the Melodies, credited to the names of the three members of the band plus composer/pianist Harold Budd, wasn't the type of thing I'd read about, or even had awareness of. It was a cool record store employee who said that if I liked The Pink Opaque, I should look for The Moon and the Melodies. Given that nowhere on the release does it say "Cocteau Twins", I'm glad he pointed me towards the album in the first place.
Remastered by Robin Guthrie of the Cocteau Twins, and ready for a reissue on August 23, the 4AD classic has never sounded better. More on that in a review here next month. For now, I'm happy to share details of this, as well as news that Cocteau Twins selections will be joining the official 4AD YouTube playlist today too (see below).
The Moon and the Melodies can be pre-saved here.
The Moon and the Melodies can be pre-ordered on vinyl, CD, or streaming from the 4AD official store.
