This new single from Chime School, the second taste of the band's upcoming Slumberland Records release, is the sort of thing that sounds like Velvet Crush but with a Gallagher Brothers-ish heft; Catchy, and condifent in its charms, this is yet another winner from this Bay Area band.
When he's not busy in Seablite, Andy Pastalniec leads Chime School. He knows exactly how to do this sort of thing. "Wandering Song" is robust in the manner of early Teenage Fanclub, with the ringing tones of something like "I Don't Know Where It Comes From" by Ride. Less jangle-y than earlier Chime School numbers, "Wandering Song" suggests that Chime School have come into their own, and are smartly forging what will be their own distinctive spin on the familiar indie-pop long championed by this venerable imprint. I love this one!
