TRACK PREMIERE: "Keys (To My Heart)" By The Ekphrastics (Wimp Factor 14) On Harriet Records, No Less!

I hit "play" on this one as soon as I read that it was Frank Boscoe from Wimp Factor 14. That's a band I can't say I've heard everything by, but I certainly know and love from their appearance on the essential ...One Last Kiss compilation. Not only that indie kids, but this is on a renewed Harriet Records imprint!

"Keys (to My Heart)" by The Ekphrastics is a shambling but smart bit of business, with lines ("More Wayne's World than Nirvana!") you'll be repeating to yourself after hearing this. There's something Grifters-y about this one, and Pavement-y too, but it's also a sharply-observed slice of pop that pleases the brain and the heart all at the same time. No mean feat, that!

Here's what Frank Boscoe of The Ekphrastics has to say about the song:

"Most of my songs describe actual events, though not necessarily ones that happened to me personally -- "Make Your Own Snowboard" is Mark's [guitarist] story, "Intrepid Concessionaire" is John's [drummer], "Searching for Lillian Gatlin" happened over 100 years ago. "Keys (To My Heart)", however, does recount a true tale from early 1992, when in my first job out of college I was indefinitely posted to an industrial site in northwestern Ohio. Most weekends, I'd make the four-hour drive back to Pittsburgh, but other times I'd explore random cities in the Midwest. One weekend I decided to stay put, which is how I found myself debating whether the unpolished riffs emanating from a neighborhood garage were inspired by Nirvana. My Walkman recording of the encounter is long-lost, but Mark's guitar lead at the one-minute mark captures the vibe."

This is not only a premiere here, but certainly a Track of the Week!
