This is a beautiful song. The enigmatic Maria Somerville is back with her first new music in years. "Projections", her new single on 4AD, is similar to past efforts by Broadcast, Mazzy Star, and Slowdive, but it's got a flavor all its own that is intoxicating.
While the musician has worked with the label in the past, and appeared on other releases, this new track is the first of what will hopefully be many on this imprint in 2025. I think for man of us who gravitated to 4AD in the era when bands like Cocteau Twins, Swallow, and Lush were actively carrying forward the high standards of this label, this track will feel like something from those days. It's blissful and haunting and one of my favorite pieces of music this autumn.
