TRACK OF THE WEEK: "My Beautiful Girl" By Youth Lagoon

While "My Beautiful Girl", the new Youth Lagoon song, is a lovely ballad. It's also a smartly constructed bit of music. In the space of barely two minutes, Trevor Powers serves up a melody every bit as haunting as anything he offered us on Heaven is a Junkyard last year. And he ornaments the composition with enough details as to keep this highly personal. What I'm trying to say is that Powers does more here in under 2.5 minutes than most indie artists do on their whole albums.

Contributor Stan Cierlitsky, a big Youth Lagoon fan, says that, "While 'Lucy Takes A Picture' takes a step away from the vibes of Heaven is a Junkyard, 'My Beautiful Girl' takes you right back there, both in terms of music and lyrics. It's just done in a more somber way."

"To me this feels like the perfect B-side to "Rabbit", the lead track from Heaven is a Junkyard," Stan adds.

"My Beautiful Girl" is out now. The B-Side to "Lucy Takes a Picture", there are more details on this track via the Bandcamp link below.
