I think this might be Track of the Month, if I'm being honest. This lilting and affecting piece of music I'm featuring today is from The Gentle Spring, a band with Michael Hiscock in it. Michael was a founding member of The Field Mice and "Sugartown", the new single from his new band, mines a similar vein of heartfelt indie.
Joined by Emilie Guillaumot and Jérémie Orsel, Michael has been crafting a new record. Called Looking Back at the World, the full-length will be out on Skep Wax in January. Until then, please enjoy -- as I have been doing -- this new piece of music. There are elements of this that suggest a clear lineage from this band, back to Trembling Blue Stars, and then back further still to The Field Mice. Even still, there's something timeless about "Sugartown", and the elegance of the tune makes it something that should appeal to not only Sarah Records acolytes, but those who are fairly new to this kind of indie-pop.
Looking Back at the World by The Gentle Spring will be out on Skep Wax in mid-January 2025. Details via that site, or via the Skep Wax Bandcamp.
