Not Fading From View: A Review Of The New Blueboy Single

One of the legendary Sarah Records bands, and one which survived the death of member Keith Girdler and the eventual depature of Harvey Williams (The Field Mice, Another Sunny Day, Trembling Blue Stars), Blueboy have persevered. After COVID lockdown, the world saw a reunited Blueboy offer up music new and old via their official social media channels, and I'm here today to rave about their latest single.

"Deux" "Fading From View" dropped yesterday and I think it's glorious. There's a robust shoegaze-y chime to "Deux" that does set it apart from older, classic era Blueboy offerings, but sometimes change and evolution are good things. The breathy vocals of Gemma Townley place this in the neighborhood of Curve or early Lush, but the tune charms largely on its own terms. Those who liked Ooberman and are unfamiliar with Blueboy will likely love this, to put it another way. The flip, "Fading from View", is a dreamy instrumental that flits between a prominent hook and atmospherics clouding same. It's the soundtrack to an autumn day awash with memories and another real gem as far as I'm concerned.
