Ban-Di-To: New Music From Red Snapper And New Album Announcement

London legends Red Snapper have announced a new record in April. Called Barb and Feather, the full-length record will include the full Tight Chest EP with David Harrow, plus four more new songs, including a David Bowie cover. I've heard the new cuts and am ready to rave about those today.

"Ban-Di-To" is sharp angled funk, with horns punching through the hook. It's robust and boundary-pushing like the best music from Red Snapper. Elsewhere, "Tolminka" is more sinuous. A slinky bass-line carries this one through territory not entirely unlike that mapped out by the late Jon Hassell in earlier eras, while "Sirocco" is jazzy and more post-disco funk. It's a neat blend of styles into one which feels like whatever genre Red Snapper call their own. Of course, the cover of David Bowie's "Sound and Vision" is superb, a revelation of this band's continued power to impress, and proof of the resilience of Bowie's composition. It's a respectful, but distinctive run at this 1977 classic tune, and in the hands of this lot, sounds like the sort of song that they will most certainly turn into a live workout with ease.

"Ban-Di-To" by Red Snapper is out now via Lo Recordings. The band will be releasing a new full-length record on the 11th of April called Barb and Feather. Details below.
