This week's Track of the Week is from new-ish Minneapolis band Field Hospitals. While "Sister Jane" is a superb slice of good old American alt-rock, you could have taken any track off the band's new EP, Ethel Green and made a strong case for it to be the Track of the Week. This is stuff that's exactly up my alley and I'm sure lots of folks will dig this the same way.
Field Hospitals features Hank Henry (ex-Stillwell), Dan Ganin (ex-Charles De Gaulle), plus Jeff Ball and Matt Helgeson, the rhythm section of band Maps of Norway. Numbers like "Passion Play" reveal secrets learned from many plays of Chronic Town and Boylan Heights, while "Ethel Green", the title cut here, made me think a tiny bit of Wire Train before they went all pop. Lots of this sounds a good deal like Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever too. If that's not enough to get you to check this out, I don't know what else I can say. This is highly recommended stuff for anyone who likes the kind of material I routinely try to champion here.
Ethel Green by Field Hospitals is out this week via Subjangle.
