VIDEO OF THE WEEK: "In Another Way" By Activity (Mem. Grooms, Russian Baths, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart)
This is on a sinister Mute Records-in-the-Eighties-ish wavelength! In other words, I love this new track from Activity!
Over glistening surfaces built by keyboards and synths, vocals point the way through the night. Decidedly austere, yet full of a warm malevolence, this song is fantastically heavy and full of foreboding. Grim and dark, it's the sort of thing I would have loved when I was 20 had I found it in a bin at Tower, and the sort of thing I love now because it's cool.
Activity features vocalist and guitarist Travis Johnson (Grooms), bassist Bri DiGioia, guitarist Jess Rees (Russian Baths), and drummer Brian Alvarez (The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Peel Dream Magazine). Their new record, announced today, is A Thousand Years in Another Way, and it's out on June 6 via Western Vinyl.
More details on Activity via the band's Bandcamp page, or via the Western Vinyl Bandcamp page. The band's going to be playing some dates with FACS and Suuns and those sound like dream line-ups.
The video for "In Another Way" was directed by Steven Levine.
